Brother multifunction printer fax view error |

The Brother multifunction printer fax view error occurs if any of the following are true; - Installed by a user that is not an administrator
- The windows firewall is on DURING the installation
- Installed by an administrator that is not the user of the software.
- Your usb cable is over 1.8m
You double click on the Brother ControlCenter2 icon at the bottom right of your screen. In the window that opens you click on PC-Fax and then click on the receive button to enable receiving by the pc. The error doesn't occur until you click on the [View received] button. To stop the fax view error, as advised by Brother support; - Disable the Windows firewall,
- Uninstall Brother MFL-Pro Suite and Paperport from Add/remove programs in the control panel.
- Reboot
- Reinstall the Brother MFL-Pro Suite including Paperport.
After extensive testing I found that the following is also necessary;
- The user installing this software must be an administrator
- After the software is installed the user may be demoted to being a power user.
- The firewall must remain disabled.
If a member of the administrator's group installs this software but then logs off and back on as the end user the software error will appear even if the end user is also an administrator. You will then have to go through the process of uninstalling , rebooting and reinstalling as the end user. This isn't the end of the story though. You now have to configure the multifunction printer to forward faxes to the pc. You can do this through the Brother Control Centre 2 by selecting Device settings and then remote setup, but if like me this generates a Windows error you will have to make this change on the Brother printer.
