Transferring emails from Outlook to Entourage or Apple Mail. |
|
OS: Mac OS X and Windows XP or Vista Neither Entourage nor Apple Mail have importers directly from Outlook so we have to use an intermediate program to convert the Outlook data into a format that Mail or Entourage can use. In this case I am using Thunderbird which is a free download from the Web.
I tried using Eudora which successfully imported the emails into Apple Mail but html formatting was visible to the user making Eudora an unacceptable intermediary. I tried using Thunderbird which also successfully imported emails, this time in the correct format. Attachments were imported too. Subfolders were imported but not the emails contained in them. Even moving the subfolders into the root of the folder tree did not overcome this problem. The only folders imported were the inbox and the sent folders. Email and contacts must be imported separately into Entourage. Importing email - Download and install Thunderbird on the Windows pc.
- Run Thunderbird and import the emails from Outlook.
- Either share c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Profiles\number.default\Mail\Local Folders\ or copy to an external drive.
- On the Mac open Apple Mail and import the emails from Thunderbird.
- Close Apple Mail and import the emails into Entourage.
Importing Contacts - In Outlook export the contacts as a csv file and call it contacts.txt
- In Entourage click on the file menu and select [Contacts or messages from a text file]
- Click the next button and then select [Import contacts from a tab- or comma-delimited text file]
- Click the next button and then navigate to the contacts.txt file you created above.
- Finally click on [Import]
